How To Configure Mail (Messenger) and News (Collabra)

While Netscape makes for a wonderful web browser, it can also be used for checking e-mail and Usenet news. Below are instructions to set up Communicator's Mail and News components (Messenger and Collabra) for use with CocoNet.

To Configure e-mail (Messenger):

  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.

  2. Click once on the plus (+) sign to the left of Mail and News category.

  3. Click once on Identity, just below the Mail and News category.

  4. Fill in the following fields:

     Real Name:        Enter your name. (This is optional).
     E-mail Address:   Enter your CocoNet e-mail address.
     Reply-To Address: Leave This Blank
   
     Organization:     This can be the company you represent or work 
                       for. (It too is optional).
     Signature File:   Any text in this field will appear at the bottom 
		       of every e-mail you send. This is useful for 
		       things such as automatically putting your name 
                       and e-mail address at the bottom of every e-mail 
                       you send. You can press the Choose button 
                       to select a text file as your signature.
  1. Click once on Mail Server in the Category window.

  2. Enter the following information in the Identity section:

          Mail server username:       Enter your CocoNet Username 
          Outgoing mail(SMTP)server:  mail.coconet.com
                                     
          Incoming mail server:       mail.coconet.com
                                      
  1. Under Mail Server Type, click once on POP3 if it is not already selected.

  2. Press OK.

Netscape Communicator's Messenger component should now be configured for e-mail.

Configuring Usenet News (Collabra)

  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.

  2. Under the Category section, click once on Mail and News.

  3. Under the Category section, click once on Groups Server below the Mail and News category.

  4. Enter the following information in the Group Server section:

          Groups server (news) name:  news.coconet.com
          Port:                       119 
  1. Press OK.

Netscape Communicator's Collabra component is now configured for Usenet news.
